10 tips for life under the sun
At Rudolph Care, we have one rule of thumb when it comes to applying sunscreen. It goes like this:
For optimal sun protection, apply sunscreen in two rounds. Apply to your body and face once, then take a break; have a cup of coffee, comb your hair, brush your teeth, enjoy something nice! And then apply sunscreen again to ensure thorough protection. Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going out in the sun.
Sun filters stick well to the skin. This is practical during the day, but at night the skin needs to be clean and filled with new care to regenerate and regain energy. Therefore, the concept of double cleansing is a buzzword to remember when using sunscreen on your face. Our best double cleanse tip is to start with Nourishing Cleansing Oil, which dissolves both water-soluble and oil-soluble sun filters - and then cleanse again with the same cleanser or Hydrating Cleansing Milk or Gentle Cleansing Foam.
One of our latest sun hacks is to invite Sun Face Serum SPF 30 into your morning skincare routine. The serum is an innovative combination of active skincare with niacinamide and hyaluronic acid, along with effective SPF 30 protection. It can replace your regular serum in spring and throughout the summer - and it can even stand alone if you only want one type of sun protection on your skin. The most important thing is to apply a sufficient amount. Therefore, we love to use the serum as a protective base and apply Sun Face Cream SPF 15, 30, or 50 on top. This provides both double protection and double care.
Let us explain... When you bathe, sweat, or towel off, some of your sunscreen disappears. Therefore, it's important to reapply regularly. Especially if you spend longer periods in the sun. To supplement exposed areas such as lips, nose, cheeks, ears, neck, and shoulders, it's always smart to have Sun Balm or Sun Stick in your pocket.
Even though sunscreen is rarely a treat for the little ones, it is a necessity. Make the sunscreen routine as short and fun as possible - we know it can be easier said than done. Apply Kids Sun Lotion, which absorbs quickly - and supplement with Sun Balm and/or Sun Stick. Get the sunscreen done before the kids get dressed - so you don't have to deal with clothes and cream in one messy situation.
Is it necessary? The short answer is yes, the long answer is yeeeees. Aftersun cools the skin and provides moisture and care for sun-warmed skin that really needs a cooling hug. Optionally, use Aftersun Repair Spray as an extra moisture boost under your body oil, lotion, or balm.
At Rudolph Care, we are proud of the way we have chosen to innovate and compose our sun products. We use five chemical sun filters, all of which meet EU recommendations for optimal UVA and UVB protection and are approved by the environmental certification, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. But hey, 'chemical'? The word 'chemical' can sound negative, but it isn't, if you make an effort and choose the good, safe kind. We have chosen the chemical filters because we believe that good chemistry makes sense to use where it benefits the most – and it does in our sun series. When a sun filter is chemically produced, it means it is controlled. This enables us to have 100% knowledge of the content and effect of the finished product. Another reason why the chemical filters are our favorite is that they do not feel greasy, sticky, or leave a white residue.
Are you one of those who love to run, cycle, jump up and down, and do push-ups in the sun? Then we have the sunscreen for you, which won't slide into your eyes when you sweat. Sun Balm SPF 50 is created for an active lifestyle. It stays on your sweaty skin and provides rich care, is fragrance-free, and easy to apply in a quick turn. You will love it - we promise!
Under the sun's rays, your skin needs much more than just SPF. It calls for moisture - and lots of it. Start your morning routine by spraying Mist Delight over your freshly cleansed face for a moisture boost - then follow up with Sun Face Serum and Sun Face Cream, for example.
What does SPF 15, 25, 30, and 50 actually mean? Well, SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and is the protection a product provides against the sun's UVB rays. SPF 15 protects against 93.3% of the sun's rays, SPF 25 protects against 96%, SPF 30 protects against 96.7%, and SPF 50 against 98%. As you can see, there is a greater jump from 15 to 30, than from 30 to 50 - however illogical it may seem. But even though the sun factor is important, the most important thing is that you apply the correct amount. We repeat it again: a teaspoon for the face and a handful for the body - and divide the amount into two rounds to ensure thorough application (go back to point number 1 if you forgot). The protection factor drops significantly if, for example, you only use half of the optimal amount - because then the protection factor is all the way down to the square root of the number on your tube. This means that if you use too little of a factor 30 or 50, the protection factor is down to approx. a factor of 5-6 and 7-8.
